If I don't specify that it's not Sadie, I'm assuming people will probably think it's her.

So here's the newest news in the world of Speedy. Top stories:

#1: ANAL BUM (SUCK IT TREBEK)
We banged out an album a little while back, and looks like it's finally coming out on Tuesday, July 9th. More info is available from our buds at Carpark.

In the meantime, the new Two Inch Astronaut has been out for a week, new Krill comes out today, and new Ovlov comes out next Tuesday. (A few of the new Ovlov tracks feature Sadie bustin' out some sick backing vocals. As for me, my biggest contribution was naming the song "Really Bees." I just opened my mouth and out it came LMAO!)

2013 has been such an outstanding summer for new shit. Don't fuck it up.

#2: JOHN FOGERTY RECEIVES 5-STAR REVIEW
Kristen Gwynne wrote up a tasty profile on Speedy for Rolling Stone of all places. Kinda mindblowing, but yeah, this actually did happen. (Also John Fogerty received a 5-star review.)

Also, our bummer-ballad "No Below" received some write-ups: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/15591-speedy-ortiz-no-below/ http://www.stereogum.com/1380172/speedy-ortiz-no-below/mp3s/ http://www.spin.com/articles/speedy-ortiz-no-below-major-arcana-download/

#3 JUNE-FEST SHOWS
We've been laying low while preparing promo materials for our new LP and workin at our jeorbs, but we were also fortunate enough to play three awesome shows throughout June:
- Popfest on June 1st with Ringo Deathstarr, Sua and Advaeta.
- Day One of The Thing in the Spring in Peterborough, New Hampshire (with Giraffe? Girraffes!, Ampere and Egg Eggs).
- Day Two of Northside's unofficial Exploding In Sound/Gimme Tinnitus showcase featuring most of our best friends (Pile, Two Inch, Grass Is Green, Ovlov, Hive Bent, Porches & Geoff Meoff from Fat).

#4 SICK VIDS
We shot some videos over the past two weeks. They're currently in the post-production phases. Thanks to Matt Caron, Wacky Castle, Boast Choan and the few dozen extras who helped out with all the fun stuff.

#5 JULY 5 & 6 SHOWS
Our new record will be available for the first time ever at the following two shows:
JULY 5: SPEEDY ORTIZ--ROOMRUNNER--CALIFORNIA X--NO ONE AND THE SOMEBODIES--SEDIMENT CLUB at DEATH BY AUDIO
JULY 6: SPEEDY ORTIZ (release party)--GRASS IS GREEN--THE VEGANS--KAL MARKS--ETHAN MARSH at GREAT SCOTT

#6: SECRET DIY CONCERTS ON GOOGLE
July/August tour dates (kicking off July 9th) will get posted soon. Some of the dates are probably easy to locate through Google searches, but don't tell anyone I told you that.

#7 PIC FROM WHEN WE PLAYED WITH SWIFT YOUNG G'S APRIL 2012

#8: DISCOVERING "THE SPEEDY CURSE"
"The Speedy Curse" (dun-dun-dunnnnnn....) is something that occurred to me a few months ago that I figured should get posted here.

The basic idea is this: You might not want to book us or play shows with us because much like the Boston Red Sox or the cast of The Wizard of Oz, we carry a deep dark curse. The facts don't lie:

Spring 2012: Gay Gardens in Allston. We played there. It's now closed WTF GUYS!? Somehow the Allston house-scene was able to hold itself together until not long after we started playing shows there. Sorry.

June/July/August 2012: Out of my 3 favorite bands discovered during this tour, TWO of them had split up by the time we got back home. (Those 3 were Free Lunch, Bat Cave and Hive Bent. HB is still together and played with us last week.)

1/9/2013: Iowa City. We played a house show on tour with Roomrunner. Very fun show, until the cops showed up during our set, and the house hasn't hosted a show since.

1/13/2013: We ended our January tour with Roomrunner on this day at Damage Records in Hadley, Mass. After the cops showed up during Roomrunner, it ended up as the last show ever played there, and Damaged closed for good not long afterwards.

2/28/2013: We shared another bill with Roomrunner at Fuzz, a monthly showcase that had been hosting bands for the past few years in the Chinatown area of Manhattan. Turns out this was the last Fuzz show ever, after that lady who works there got mad pissed about the amp volume and said "You ruin it for everybody."

A casual observer might get suspicious about the last three instances including shows with Roomrunner, but let's be honest... They were all shows with Speedy on the bill. As far as we know, Roomrunner hasn't been closing down house spaces elsewhere, but only when Speedy just happened to be present. Coincidence???

March 2013: And then that whole thing happened with the cops showing up at Butcher Shoppe the day before we were supposed to play with Spelling Bee, Plates of Cake and Radical Dads. And now Butcher Shoppe is no more!

A more extensive list of instances might really drive home a more compelling argument for the realness of our curse, but nothing else comes to mind at the moment... Okay, ignore all of this. Our curse is in limbo. (See video posted below.) We'll see where it leads. Check back for more updates.
